Decades of experience
Bill has been involved in athletics as a player and coach over the
last 34 years. After graduation from high school in Maryland in 1980 where he lettered 4 times in
baseball, he went on to play at High Point University in NC, and captained the program
his sophomore year. After receiving his BA in History and Secondary Education in 1984 he went on to
earn his MS in Human Resources Management in 1987 from Golden Gate University in California. During that
time, he also served in the Marine Corps. He is close to completing his second
post-graduate degree from George Washington University, in Educational Leadership
and Administration.
Bill has just concluded his 18th year as a public school teacher in North Carolina, working at the
junior high, and high school levels. He has coached both men's and women's teams in baseball,
basketball, football, and softball. Bill has guided or assisted teams in earning 4 conference championships, and 171 wins as
a high school baseball coach. This record includes 8 high school state playoff appearances. He has
been a member of 3 high school state championship teams.
As both a player and coach he has had the fortunate opportunity to play with and work with
well-known former and current professional athletes including the likes of future hall of famer Cal
Ripken, Jr, B.J. Surhoff, and Walt Weiss. Bill has coached over 2 dozen student athletes who went
on to play at the college and pro level, including 3rd baseman Dallas MacPherson of the Los
Angeles Angels. Three of his former players played professionally with the Expos, Brewers,
Elmira Pioneers, and several others.
Over the course of his coaching career, he has been witness to some of the finest coaching and
clinic instruction there is to offer by many of the nation's premier coaches at the collegiate and
professional level. He has been both a clinician and speaker at several summer
sports camps throughout North Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virgina over his career. Between 1996-2001, Bill served as both an
assistant and head coach with the North Carolina State Games organization. After leading Region
Five to a Gold Medal in '01 he served as Head Coach of the West Senior team in Raleigh as part of
the State Games. In the summer of 2002 is he was selected as an Associate Head Coach of the North
Carolina H.S. All Star Team representing the state in the 2nd Annual Carolina's Showcase Classic.
